IN TODAY’S REPORT
What we cover: TECHNICAL ANALYSIS Edition. REKTelligence Rangeometer reading implications. VOLticipation reading highest since January 2011(!). Resting cobras.
Today’s Key Charts
BITCOIN with REKTelligence Rangeometer. Daily Chart.
Bitcoin bases and bases and bases. So nothing new, right? Not quite.
The REKTelligence Rangeometer just hit its highest level since September 2023 when the king crypto traded just under $26,000. Only six months later in March, Bitcoin topped $70,000. While not all high Rangeometer readings see large magnitude percentage moves follow, a constricting 10-day range often does act like extremely dry timber awaiting the spark.
TAKEAWAY: This current low volatility condition (the tightest 10-day range in well over a year) is very likely the prelude to an imminent expanding of range. This will be the subject of a stats edition soon. Until then, be on the lookout for a massive candle out of this price area.
BITCOIN with REKTelligence VOLticipation ST. Daily Chart.
Another sign of plummeting volatility also just occurred, hitting its highest level since January of 2011(!).
A high reading in my VOLticipation ST indicator means that the “long-term” volatility (10 days) is much higher than the short-term volatility (3 days). In practical terms, a high ratio indicates that the market's recent price movement has been unusually calm compared to its more “normal” or historical volatility.
TAKEAWAY: While less reliable than the Rangeometer, we've just witnessed the highest reading since Bitcoin's early days. In fact, the last time we saw such a reading was right before Bitcoin vaulted from $0.29 to over $1.00.
Speaking short-term, Bitcoin is coiled like a sleeping cobra. While the uptrend, chart pattern, and narrative all suggest up only, I will be steadfastly awake as the cobra rests. Volatility may be reliable, but price direction is less so.
Until next time…
